The San Miguel Beermen kept their championship hopes alive by defeating TNT KaTropa 96-83 in Game 7 and moving forward to third straight PBA Philippines Cup Finals on Monday at the MOR Arena.
Guard Chris Ross served as a big man for SMB who worked tirelessly by unleashing a double-double, accounting for 18 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.
The 31-year-old Filipino-American professional basketball player said –
“It’s Game 7. It’s Game 7. You gotta keep your horses out there. I told coach, ‘I’m good, I can play. I can play 48 if you need me.’ I’m sure the other starters said the same thing,”
“Coach has a set of guys that he’s comfortable with in Game 7s. It’s win or go home, so you go with your guys that got you here and luckily, it worked out for us.” He added
He in fact dropped a near triple-double performance to outlast KaTropa on Monday night and now the team will have a rest of 4 days while coming back on field on Friday to either face Star or Kings.
Beermen showed no signs of fatigue in the Game 7, as MVP pair of June Mar Fajardo and Arwin Santos lead the team by notching 22 apiece and combining for a total of 32 rebounds.
Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter likewise had 14 and 12 markers respectively.
TNT missed Jayson Castro due to hamstring injury, which left KaTropa clearly struggling on offense all game long, shooting not more than 37% from the field.
Larry Fonacier lead TNT with 14 points, while Rookie Roger Pogoy added 13 and Kelly Williams had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
