The Cignal-San Beda College HD Hawkeyes paved way for its 3rd straight win by breaking down Batangas on an easy 95-68 victory on Sunday in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Monday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Robert Bolick and Byron Villarias caught fire in the 2nd quarter that tore the Batangas and joint for 16 of the teams’ 31 points. This second quarter also gave Hawkeyes a halftime lead 56-34 which was further extended to as much as 27, 71-44.
Cignal is now a three-way tie at the second place with Tanduay and Cafe France, all having same 3-1 records.
Bolick topped the Cignal with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Villarias managed 13 markers on a 3-of-6 clip from threes.
Jason Perkins was another man from Hawkeyes to finish on double-double with 11 points and 9 boards, while Alfred Batino also had 10 markers.
However, Coach Boyet Fernandez is expecting a better performance from the team as the tournament goes. He said –
“This is a team in progress. We still have to develop our teamwork because we only started a month ago.
Nevertheless, he is still happy that the team is showing positive signs after four games in the tournament.
“But credit to my boys because they played well today. This will only help us improve our teamwork as we play more stronger teams in the future,” he added
Cedrick Ablaza led Batangas (1-4) with 16 points and five rebounds, while Cedric de Joya added 12 markers to the loss.
