Romain Bardet won Stage 12 while Uran Rigoberto and Fabio Ario finished second and third respectively.

The Tour kicks off in the Pyrenees on Stage 12 which covers 214.5 km with six category climbs. This is also a mountaintop finish which will not cater the sprinters at all but the GC contenders and the breakaways.

Stage 12 will start in Pau and will finish in Peyragudes. The riders will be passing through the Cote de Capvern which is a category 4 at around 64km mark. They will be climbing again at a Category 2 Col de Ares at 111.5km mark. After around 38 km of of riding, they will reach the the Category 1 Col de Mente which is a 6.9 km climb with average gradient of 8.1 percent.

The real battle begins at the foot of Porte de Bales which covers 11.7km to the top having 7.7 percent average gradient. Because it is just 30km from the finish, the contenders will be attacking each others while Team Sky and Chris Froome will be watchful. The cyclists will descend for a long 15km and they will ascend again for the Col de Peyresourde, a 9.7km length with a 7.8 percent gradient. After a short descent they will battle for the 2.4 km climb to the finish at Peyragudes.

While Chris Froome remains on top of the General Classification Standings, the gaps are to small against his competitors. This stage will be revealed if Astana Team Fabio Aru, just 18 seconds behind, is the main rival of Froome. Romain Bardet, 51 seconds behind, can also launch an attack that could potentially break the peloton. Astana’s Jakob Fuglsang can be the most dangerous man threating the yellow jersey because he can be aggressive in launching attacks to favor his teammate Aru.

With all the distance that Froome created, Nairo Quintana remains a competitor for he is just 2′ 13″ behind. Daniel Martin looks strong and he can also win the stage. It is just a matter if any attacks will be successful against Team Sky.

Tour de France stage 12 will start at 6:25 AM ET and with the live television viewing in the United States by NBCSN which will begin the coverage at 8:00 AM ET.
