Adamson destroys Chaing Kai Shek, owns PSSBC Crown


The highly-anticipated finals of MEC Network Cup ended up favouring Adamson Baby Falcons that defeated Chiang Kai Shek College (CKSC) Blue Dragons 96-85 to capture their first ever UAAP team PSSBC (Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship) crown at the SGS gym in Quezon City last Sunday.

The Blue Dragons entered finals beating Mapua-Malayan 92-79 in the semifinals, but could not survive against the baby falcon that notched 96 to wrap the 5th MEC Networks Cup “Battle of Champions.

The leading player for baby falcon remained rookie Florencio Serrano who took charge in the sweltering 2nd quarter and pushed the game till 4th to dismiss Blue Dragons from winning the title.

Encho Serrano came away with 20 points, eight rebounds, and four assists while Gerry Austin Abadiano added 16 points as the Baby Falcons wrapped up a first-ever PSSBC title.

The 5-foot-11 Serrano additionally owned Finals MVP title after notching 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block in 25 minutes of time. Gerry Austin Abadiano did his part by adding 16 points for Adamson.

This is the first time a UAAP team has won the match competed in by the top four schools from UAAP, NCAA, and the Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF).

The leading Mythical Selection went to Gerry Abadiano, La Salle Greenhills’ Troy Mallilin, Mapua’s Rom Junsay and Chiang Kai Shek’s Jonas Tibayan.

Apart from championship trophy, baby falcon were also awarded with P50,000 top price from PSSBC officials managed by MEC Network owner Leoncio Chua and Eduard Tio.

Leoncio Chua said

“The Baby Falcons will have a memorable Christmas this time. They are really good,”

On the third place were NCAA top Mapua that defeated La Salle-Greenhills, 80-69.
