Ginebra smashes last minute to finish Mahindra


Barangay Ginebra once again successfully displayed their strong defense marking .500 against Mahindra to finish the Floodbusters 89-70 in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday, 16th December 2016 at the smartest Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Both teams were struggling in the first half, which ended up with the scores 32 for Ginebra and 27 for Floodbuster. Gin Kings even saw a tough challenge thrown from the winless Mahindra in the early minutes. However, in the fourth quarter the Gin rookies extended the minutes as they notched their 2nd victory for the season.

Ginebra with this win moved to 2-2 record in PBA Philippine Cup, while Floodbusters are still without a win in 5 starts.

Coach Tim Cone after the match said –  

“First half was such a struggle. We’re trying something new and we’re struggling with it,”

“In the second half, we got something good going, and it opened opportunity for our young guys.”

Japeth Aquilar sustained the winning side with throwing 15 points and 12 rebounds for Ginebra, while the team got significant contribution from rookie Kevin Ferrer who had 12 points off the bench. Chris Ellis as well did his share by adding 12 points as the team maintained the Floodbuster’s record of 0-5.

After getting started with the score of 55-47 in the third quarter, the Kings kept moving ahead marking amazing 19 points triumph. Mahindra’s defense was commendable, which gave room for only 14 points to Kings in the opening quarter and 18 in the second.

The Floodbuster were led by Alex Mallari who had the averages score of 16.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
