UAAP Volleyball – La Salle enters as underdog for Season 79, De Jesus

UAAP Season 79 Volleyball season will being on 4th Feb 2017 and reigning champion La Salle is entering the league as an underdog, according to the head coach Ramil de Jesus.

When asked which team can bring in biggest trouble for Lady Spikers, de Jesus said – “All of them”

After 5 years of setting fire in the overall collegiate ranks, Alyssa Valdez took her final bow in the UAAP stage last April. De Jesus said the team marked a high level of standards in the UAAP after abiding Alyssa Valdez.

15-time champion University of Santo Tomas and National University could be their biggest title contender for La Salle because of their redoubtable rosters.

Cherry Rondina, EJ Laure, Chloe Cortez and Ria Meneses that played in the Shakey’s V-League for different clubs in the Philippine Superliga will have battle-tested in the upcoming 79th UAAP season.

De Jesus in Filipino added –

“All of them are excelling,”

“We set this level of game so other teams were catching up.  Now they reached this level and it’s our turn to catch up.”

However, the loss of Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo and Ara Galang might take a toll on the Lady Spikers.

“We lost many players, it’s hard to match the character of Mika and Ara inside the court,” said De Jesus.

The team in place of three will have Dawn Macandili who will take the leadership role on 4th Feb 2017. Macandili is a powerful player and have made history when she came up as the 1st ever libero to take home the crown of Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the renowned semi-professional league.
