Beermen blast Elite, secure QF berth in PBA

 

Defending champions San Miguel Beermen once again over performed to stop Blackwater Elite 118-93 and became the first team to qualify for quarterfinals in the PBA Philippine Cup 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on 6th January.

Reigning MVP (Most Valuable Player) June Mar Fajardo nagged 25 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks that kept Beermen on top with a 6-1 record, marking their entry to the playoffs.

Gabby Espinas backed up Fajardo with his impressive game plan, scattering 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting and 6 boards. Marcio Lassiter added 14 points on a 4-of-6 shooting from three.

Despite broken nose, Alex Cabagnot tried doing his part by finishing with 14 markers, 9 rebounds, and 3 dimes in the victory.

Excited about the win, San Miguel coach Leo Austria said –

I think this is a good new year for us. We had a good start and I think this is what we’re waiting for,”

“I hope we sustain what we’re doing.”

Blackwater saw an opening with Raymond Aguilar and Roi Sumang staging a late comeback and trimming the deficit to as low as 11, 101-90, with 4:23 left. But San Miguel put its foot down behind Fajardo, Cabagnot, and Ross for its fifth straight win
