Lady Stags sweep  Elimination Round, ahead for Finals spot

San Sebastian College disposed Lyceum of the Philippines University as Lady Stags moves closer to the direct race to the finals in the NCAA women’s volleyball Monday 23rd January at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb finally got a chance to discuss the prospects of Lady Stags grabbing victory in all the elimination round. He said in Filipino –

“Our focus is now in that one game against St. Benilde and we have a day to prepare for it,”

Coming from two  straight defeat from Perpetual Help 21-25, 27-29, 23-25 and Arellano U 23-25, 23-25, 20-25 Lyceum coach Emil Lontoc before the clash with Lady Stags said –

“We really have no choice but to go for a win,”

Reigning champion and back-to-back MVP Grethcel Sotlones and Joyce Sta. Rita led the Lady Stags with firing 13 apiece to graduate the SSC-R to their 8th straight win, or just one win away from cementing an outright spot of championship round where they have the benefit of thrice-to-bead bonus.

Lady Stags takes on defending champion St. Benilde in the final eliminations playing on Wednesday.

Even last year, the San Sebastian dominated the eliminations but finally could not survive to the Lady Blazers in the championship.

“The players are all pumped up and we want to get back at them. It’s not an easy task but the momentum is on our side,” added Gorayeb.

St. Benilde (6-3), San Beda (6-3) and Perpetual (5-3) are fighting for the last two slots in the Final Four. Arellano is assured of the second semifinals spot with a 7-1 card.
