NLEX gains dominating victory over TNT


NLEX Road Warriors notched their 2nd win after playing 7 games by defeating TNT Katropa, 110-98, Saturday in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Gym in Angeles, Pampanga.

In the home province of head coach Yeng Guiao, the Road Warriors displayed massive maturity while playing that Guiao was long looking for. The victory over TNT has lifted the team one spot up the cellar in the current PBA season.

The highest baskets came in from Carlo Lastimosa, with 22 points (game-high), 3 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Sean Anthony finished with 13 markers and 13 boards, also Kevin Alas and Eric Camson grabbed 12 points apiece. Bradwyn Guinto added 11 markers and 8 boards.

Coach Guiao after the game commented –

“It is a big relief to win after a five-game losing streak, and it’s more special because we beat a title contender,” “It’s just one win for us.”

“It’s a long way to go for us,” said Guiao. “But it is a good start for the New Year. We’re hoping this sets the tone for us for the rest of the year.”

Jason Castro, who was playing in his hometown for the first time in his entire career continued to play hard off the bench, rallying a team-high score of 17 points, seven assists, 5 boards, and 2 steals in 32 minutes.

TNT majorly suffered the push back of Ranidel De Ocampo who managed only 7 points less than 9 minutes as he dropped out of the game due to minor ankle sprain in the second quarter.
