NU gains over La Salle, Napa calls it “sloppy”

Defending Champions the Nazareth School of National University made its way for the second consecutive win in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament by defeating De La Salle Zobel, 63-52, at the San Juan Arena, Tuesday.

By routing La Salle, Bullpups cemented their Final Four playoff berth in the tournament, however NU Consultant Jeff Napa looked really unhappy with the performance.

Napa after the clash said –

“It wasn’t really a good win for us because we were too sloppy,”

“We can’t afford to play this way coming into our next game. We have to remind our boys that we can’t relax”

Scoring almost double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds, Winderlich Coyoca led the Bullpups, who tied Adamson in the first place at 8-1.

Having a real bad start, NU failed to answer the first 8 points and couldn’t move ahead of La Sale that kept the game close until last five minutes when Bullpups stole the show.

After three quarters, Junior Archers were only behind 3 points. Soon after NU tightened its defense side and allowed only 9 points in the final frame. Final quarter, Coyoca and Penano scored six points each to outperform their opponents by themselves, 12-9.

“We expected Zobel to keep it close but through our experience and defense we can really accomplish anything,” Napa added.

The victory moved Bullpups closer to securing a top two finish, however Napa isn’t looking too far as still there are five games left in their elimination round schedule.

Clemente and Amsali combining offered 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Romero and Mariano had 8 each for DLSZ.
