Sangalang scores 14 to lead Hotshots in a win over TNT

Ian Sangalang scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds to led the Star Hotshots in an 88-77 win over TNT KaTropa on Sunday in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Sangalang was consistent throughout the ballgame in contributing enough offense for the Hotshots. Aldrech Ramos had 13 points and seven boards to compliment Sangalang as the Hotshots avoided their their losing streak. To add into the offensive juggernaut of Star, Allein Maliksi had 13 points while Paul Lee added 10 points.

Star started in a 15-4 spurt early in the game until it reached to 59-40 score, a 19-point lead advantage early in the fourth quarter. The Hotshots never looked back as they capped up the victory.

Jason Castro was persistent to rally back TNT that even cut the deficit to 84-77 with 1:13 left but it wasn’t enough when Rafi Reavis put back a miss to distance the Hotshots away in the final minute of the game. Ranidel de Ocampo led TNT with 21 points and three rebounds while Castro added 16 points and four assists.

“The mindset was our defense against their offense. Our goal was to limit them under 90 points and our game plan worked,” said Hotshots coach Chito Victolero.
