SMB likely to play without Cabagnot against Blackwater

Alex Cabagnot is still recovering from his fractured nose, and he might miss San Miguel Beermen’s first game of 2017 against Blackwater on Friday, however the veteran will be ready for the Beermen’s duel against Ginebra Gin Kings on Sunday.

Cabagnot attended his first practice session after injury at Acropolis Greens, where he said –

“My expected time to play will be on Sunday. Friday is a little bit too premature because the swelling still hasn’t subsided,”

The nose fractured was suffered after receiving end of an unintentional elbow from Cliff Hodge in the 3rd quarter of the SMB’s win over Meralco 101-86 in the last week of December. He was immediately taken to San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay for treatment.

Cabagnot still feels the pain on his nose, however the doctors are doing their best to ease the pain and get him back on the court as quickly as possible.

It’s OK now. It’s a little bit fractured, but we’re just waiting for the swelling to go down,” “I’m taking all the medicine in the world and before Friday, I hope I could get my mask fitted.” He added.

The 34-year-old has injured his nose for the first time in his career, he is hoping that the using a protective mask during the play won’t be a distraction particularly with him averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.2 steals so far this 2017 PBA Philippine Cup.
