Lady Chiefs stun Lady Stags to reclaim NCAA Volleyball crown

It was a big moment indeed for Arellano University that fought against all odds and reclaimed the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Volleyball Championship by defeating Lady Stags 25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, Tuesday at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

It was a big yet sweet victory for the Lady Chiefs, who survived the Lady Stags’ thrice-to-beat advantage.

Four players that played big for the AU were Finals MVP Jovie Prado, captain/skipper Ria Sante, Andrea Marzan and Regine Arocha who teamed up hard to deliver 14 points each for the Lady Chiefs.

Lady Chiefs bagged NCAA title for the second time in last 3 years while keeping the crown winning promise up for coach Roberto Javier, who lost his wife recently due to cancer.

Sante loaded 12 of her markers off kills and 2 aces, while Marzan added 11 of hers coming from spikes, two service aces, and a block. Notably, Mary Anne Esquerra played awesome in the 4th set adding 12 points to the win.

Arellano head coach Javier said –

“I’m just thankful for my players because even in that small way, I felt they condoled with me,”

It was Lady Chiefs 12th straight win, who lost only one game in the season against San Sebastian in the opening day.

“This is really a big thing for us because we worked hard for this year,” said Javier.

Prado was awarded with Finals Most Valuable Players while Obet Javier, coach of Arellano took home the Coach of the Year Award.

Season MVP Grethcel Soltones finished with 25 points, all coming from kills, but will not own any NCAA title in her collegiate career.
