Tanduay sets twin records at cost of Zark’s  Burgers

Tanduay finally came out of the embarrassment zone after frustrating Zark’s Burgers in record with 76-point breakdown, 141-65 in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, on Monday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.

All in the firing mood, the Rhum Masters sets two new records – one for the maximum points scored at 141, washing away the 140-points smashed by Racal Motors against Jawbreakers on June 8th and 2nd record was set by winning the match at max margin of 76 points, erasing Cignal HD’s 67-point winning margin against Gamboa Coffee on June 15th.

But these achievements hardly mattered to coach Lawrence Chongson as for him the only record matter is the championship (no less, no more), in a statement he said –

“Those records mean nothing if we don’t make it to the next round, “The only record we want is to be a champion.”

“The players were really disheartened with the loss against Flying V. They really wanted to make up for it. I thought their determination and desire were on display early and it paved the way for our strong start,” he added.

James Martinez who came off the bench fired game-high 23 points for Rhum Masters, to take early 35-6 advantage against Jawbreakers. Jerwin Gaco was on the fire from the beginning of the game as he uncorked 14 of his 21 points in the first quarter along with 8 rebounds and 3 assist in the overall win.

Paul Sanga had 20 points and 4 rebounds, while Paul Varilla contributed 15 markers and 8 boards. Further Lester Alvarez gave 11, Dennis Villamor 10, and Joseph Terso had 11 assists for the Rhum Masters.

Robby Celiz scored 13 points and 3 rebounds to lead Jawbreakers, while Jerome Ferrer and Clark Bautista added 12 and 11 markers, respectively in the loss. The team dropped to 1-7 standings in the PBA D-League.
