Gin Kings whip Fuel Masters in PBA Governor’s Cup

The Ginebra Gin Kings outplayed the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 105-92, in the PBA Governors’ Cup Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Justin Brownlee powered through an all-around performance with 24 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks. Joe Devance complimented for 14 points, nine of which were in the pivotal third quarter.

Barangay Ginebra’s height provided the advantage as Japeth Aguilar posted 19 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks while Greg Slaughter added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ginebra’s frontline of Slaughter, Brownlee and Aquilar created a distance in rebounding that translated into a 76-47 advantage.

The Gin Kings lineup made it difficult for Phoenix to stay afloat as import Brandon Brown was limited to only 26 points and 18 rebounds on an 8-for-23 shooting. Brown also had seven turnovers. Matthew Wright scored 21 points in 21 shots for Phoenix.

With the win Ginebra climbed tied with Meralco on top of the standings. Phoenix dropped to 2-7 record.

“We’re a little frustrated at halftime. We were playing a little sloppy and weren’t as efficient as we wanted to be,” said Ginebra head coach Tim Cone.
