Star survives a scare over San Miguel

The Star Hotshots outlasted the San Miguel Beermen, 104-98, to stay undefeated in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

While blowing up a big lead, the Hotshots rallied to overpower the Beermen through Ian Sangalang’s 1 points and 11 rebounds performance, including four free throws that sealed the game in the last 10 seconds.

San Miguel cut their deficit into two, 97-95, by instigating a 12-2 run with just 1:11 remaining in the game. However, Star’s import Malcolm Hill drained a triple to pushed it to 100-95. Marco Lassiter answered it wih a triple to make it 100-98 with 20.3 seconds left. Sangalang did his part with four free throws made for the Hotshots to win. Hill had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Hotshots.

Wendell McKines posted 27 points and 22 rebounds while Lassiter added 24 points for the Beermen, who suffered their first loss. June Mar Fajardo did not play due to injury incurred last Wednesday against TNT.
