Meralco overwhelms Blackwater, enters semis

The top-seeded Meralco Bolts pulled off a 104-96 victory over the Blackwater Elite in a do-or-die game to enter into the semifinals of the PBA Governors’ Cup Thursday.

Baser Amer exploded for 31 points and four rebounds to keep Meralco in the competition. Amer played superbly by making shots when his team mostly needed. Also, Jared Dillinger posted 15 points on five three-pointers to help the Bolts in getting back into the game after allowing Blackwater to have a 12-point lead.

Import Allen Durham, who played through an injury in the final quarter, finished with 18 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists. Durham made plays at the most crucial part of the game when the Elite were trying to bounce back in the fourth quarter.

Garvo Lanete contributed 17 points in five three-pointers. Moreover, the firepower of Meralco was too much as Ranidel De Ocampo added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Henry Walker posted 34 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Elite. Walker already had 27 points and 11 rebounds at the half while Blackwater had a 52-40 lead.

Meralco went on to have an 11-0 spurt to take the lead, 90-84, with 8:06 left in the final quarter.
