Star Hotshots outplay NLEX Road Warriors, enter semis

The Star Hotshots overpowered the NLEX Road Warriors, 89-77, Tuesday to enter into the semifinals in the 2017 PBA Governors Cup at Mall of Asia Arena.

In a defensive oriented match, Kristofer Acox exploded with 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Hotshots who are waiting for the eventual winner of the Bolts and Elite.

The Hotshots delivered a 14-4 run in the final quarter to distance themselves against the Road Warriors. It was just a four-point lead for Star but the emergence of Paul Lee, who scored eight of his 18 total points in the fourth quarter.

Also, Ian Sangalang did his job by hitting 14 points and grabbing four rebounds. Sangalang’s defense also was an integral part for the success of the Hotshots.

Aaron Fuller led the way for NLEX with 16 points and nine rebounds. NLEX had to go home after losing two games in a row against the Hotshots. NLEX suffered a 101-93 defeat on Sunday. Though the Road Warriors had a twice-to-beat advantage, the Hotshots were a better team.

“We limited them to under 80 points and that was our goal which was to limit their fastbreak points,” Star coach Chito Victolero.
